Diego Baliardo was born in Montpellier, France on 21 May 1951. He grew up playing the guitar with his brothers and is the co-founder of the Gipsy Kings. The GIPSY KINGS group began in 1987 driven by two families in the south of the France, BALIARDO and REYES, who together decided to promote the Gipsy culture and with a line-up of Nicholas REYES, Pablo REYES, Canut REYES, Patchai REYES, Andre REYES, Diego BALIARDO, Tonino BALIARDO and Paco BALIARDO.
Before becoming the GIPSY KINGS, the group was initially called LOS REYES. The trigger came in 1978 when Saint-Tropez’s most famous resident, Brigitte Bardot, invited them to entertain (or rather set alight) a private party. Following this, the group becomes the favorite of the billionaires and were in demand for every reception and party for the international stars.
The group then became the symbol of the party!!! Following this they decided to form the GIPSY KINGS and success came quickly with timeless songs such as „Bamboleo“ which was also the name of their first album, breaking boundaries and become the first Gypsy group to earn a Golden Record in the United States. They went on to win Group of the Year in the 1990 Victoires de la Musique.
